How to properly apply vegan nail polish

How to paint your nails perfectly – here's how:

• Prepare nails

You should remove your old nail polish very carefully. Ideally, use a nail polish remover that doesn't contain harsh acetone, such as the LIA eco-friendly Remover . This will protect your nail plate. Afterwards, wash your hands thoroughly with soap. This will ensure your new nail polish adheres perfectly, as all traces of oil and residue from the old polish will now be gone. This will prevent any unevenness in the fresh polish later on.

• Shape nails

Before painting your nails, trim them to your desired length. Then file them into your favorite shape. A gentle glass file is recommended for this. Afterwards, care for your cuticles. You can either remove them with a special scrub or cuticle remover, or simply push them back.

Speaking of nail shape: Particularly narrow nails appear wider when filed in a square shape. Round-filed nails look narrower.

• Apply base coat

The so-called base coat or undercoat not only prevents nail polish from staining your nails, but it also helps you apply it evenly by strengthening your nails and smoothing out any minor imperfections. If you have brittle or ridged nails, you can use a nail hardener as a base coat. Apply your base coat in a thin, even layer, working in one smooth motion from the cuticle to the tip. Start in the middle of the nail, then work your way to the edges.

• Apply colored lacquer

Give the base coat a full fifteen minutes to dry completely. Please don't blow on it to speed up the process. For an even finish, keep your hands still and don't touch anything. Then, shake your nail polish before use and apply two thin coats. Allow sufficient time for each coat to dry.

The key to a perfect result is proper brush technique. Start in the center of the nail, then work outwards to the edges. Remember to wipe the brush well on the rim of the bottle to avoid applying the coats too thickly.

• Apply topcoat

A top coat makes your colored nail polish last longer because it forms a protective layer against small scratches and chips. It also provides a glossy finish.
